ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin replies to Jim Irsay's personal attack with single message

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay recently addressed his 2014 DUI arrest in a candid interview. Irsay claimed that he was wrongly accused of driving under the influence as he was not intoxicated at the time. He revealed that his inability to walk a straight line during the arrest was due to a recent hip surgery. Additionally, police discovered pills in his car, which further complicated the situation.

However, Irsay expressed frustration towards an ESPN show for allegedly distorting the facts of his arrest. Chris Mad Dog Russo, a commentator on "First Take," accused Irsay of having "a lot of drugs in the car" and carrying $29,000. Russo even went as far as calling Irsay a "fool." Enraged by these claims, Irsay took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to threaten legal action against the program. He vehemently denied having any alcohol or illegal drugs in his possession, emphasizing that carrying $29,000 was not unusual for him. According to Irsay, he frequently donates significant sums of money to those in need to make the world a better place.

Irsay's anger seemed to be directed towards a specific female commentator, whose name he claimed not to know or care about. In his X post, he launched personal attacks against her, describing her as mean and ugly. Irsay even threatened that if his deceased mother were alive, she would have taken issue with the commentator's behavior. He attributed the negative attention he received to his status as a wealthy white billionaire, suggesting that if he were an average person, he wouldn't have been targeted in the same way.

Despite the controversy surrounding his arrest, Irsay stood by his claim of innocence. He maintained that he pleaded guilty simply to expedite the legal process and put the incident behind him. The Colts owner has been in charge of the franchise since 1995, following a legal battle after the death of his father. Under his ownership, the team experienced significant success with quarterback Peyton Manning. However, the team has faced challenges since Manning's departure and Andrew Luck's surprise retirement.

As news of Irsay's outburst on X reached the media, ESPN personality Kimberley A. Martin responded to his insults with a one-word correction: "You're*." Martin also updated her profile on X, sarcastically referring to herself as the "Woman that preceded Stephen A."

The controversy surrounding Irsay's recent interview on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" also fueled the backlash against him. During the interview, Irsay discussed his DUI arrest and claimed that he faced prejudice due to his wealthy white billionaire status. However, his remarks were met with criticism, particularly from Martin and other commentators on "First Take." They accused Irsay of displaying a lack of self-awareness and failing to acknowledge his privileged position. Martin expressed frustration with the NFL owner's comments, stating that they exemplified the perception of NFL owners as being detached and unaware of their privilege.

Amid the escalating drama, Tim Green, the former police chief at the time of Irsay's arrest, refuted the owner's claims. Green called for Irsay to reconsider his statements, noting that they lacked evidence and proof.

The entire incident has put Irsay and his past arrest back in the spotlight, raising questions about his credibility and the consequences of his privileged position.
