Raiders' Roderic Teamer arrested before crucial Chiefs clash

19:38 26.11.2023

Las Vegas Raiders safety Roderic Teamer found himself in legal trouble on Saturday night as he was arrested just hours before the team's crucial AFC West matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 26-year-old reserve defensive back was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence and speeding in Las Vegas, as confirmed by officials. Teamer, who had recently been activated off of the injured reserve, was released from custody on Sunday morning.

The Raiders, upon learning about the incident, released a statement addressing the situation. The team acknowledged the incident involving Teamer and stated that they are currently gathering more information. They also mentioned that they will refrain from commenting further at this time.

Teamer's journey in the NFL has been filled with ups and downs. He initially entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane in 2019, signing with the Los Angeles Chargers. In his debut season, he played in seven games, recording an interception and 40 tackles. However, his career took a hit when he was suspended for four games in 2020 due to a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Consequently, he did not make any appearances for any team that year.

In 2021, Teamer signed with the Indianapolis Colts before ultimately joining the Las Vegas Raiders. Throughout his NFL career, he has played in a total of 40 games, accumulating 103 tackles and one interception. In college, Teamer played 43 games for the Tulane Green Wave, showcasing his skills with three career interceptions and 198 tackles.

The timing of Teamer's recent arrest is particularly unfortunate as he had just been activated off the injured reserve. The safety's absence from the Raiders' Week 12 matchup against the Chiefs was confirmed, and his arrest has added another layer of turmoil to an already tumultuous season for the team. Earlier in the month, head coach Josh McDaniels was fired, leading to the elevation of linebacker coach Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach. Additionally, general manager David Ziegler was let go.

The Raiders, currently standing at a 5-6 record, faced a critical game against the Chiefs, who are at 7-3. The matchup was scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium. However, as Teamer's arrest overshadowed the game, the Raiders were left to address yet another challenging situation.
