Prince Harry's Christmas mission: Mending family ties

09:38 19.12.2023

In a surprising turn of events, royal biographer and expert Tom Quinn has suggested that Meghan Markle may have the opportunity to return to the royal fold in the future, albeit with certain conditions. Despite the major rift between the Sussexes and the Firm, Quinn believes that Meghan could be welcomed back by the royal family if she were to physically live in England and quietly adopt the responsibilities and duties that come with being a member of the royal family. However, Quinn made it clear that an apology or a complete change from the royal family is unlikely to be granted to Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to step back from their roles as senior royals in 2020, seeking privacy by moving to California. Since then, they have been involved in numerous projects that shed light on their struggles within the royal institution. Harry released a bombshell memoir titled "Spare," while the couple engaged in an eye-opening interview with Oprah Winfrey and produced a Netflix documentary titled "Harry & Meghan."

Quinn also revealed that Prince Harry is attempting to mend the broken relationship with the royal family just in time for Christmas Day. Recognizing the importance of family during the holiday season, Harry is reportedly realizing his need for the royal family more than they need him. Quinn suggests that this realization may lead Harry to make another attempt to reconcile with his family. However, given the ongoing controversy surrounding Omid Scobie's tell-all biography, "Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival," a reunion seems unlikely at this time.

The Sussexes have been absent from the royal family's traditional Christmas celebrations at Sandringham House for the past three years, choosing instead to spend the festive season in their lavish $14 million Montecito mansion with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Quinn points out that the family dynamics may not allow Harry and Meghan to overshadow the presence of Prince William and Kate Middleton this Christmas. He expects the royal family to ensure that William, Kate, and their children are prominently visible throughout the holiday period.

In his memoir, Prince Harry shared a number of explosive anecdotes about his family, further straining the already fractured relationship. He particularly portrayed his brother William as his "arch-nemesis," leaving little room for immediate reconciliation. Despite this, Quinn believes that Prince Charles may want to emphasize a good relationship with at least one of his sons, and his daughter-in-law, during a time when families come together.

As the holiday season approaches, the possibility of Meghan Markle's return to the royal family remains uncertain. The wounds from past events and revelations are still fresh, making a complete reconciliation challenging. However, only time will tell if the Sussexes can find a way back into the fold and mend the broken bonds with the royal family.
