Fatal police chase in rural Pennsylvania ends with suspects found dead

11:40 21.12.2023

In a tragic turn of events, two men were found dead inside their car in Antrim Township, Pennsylvania, after they drove it off an embankment and it sank in a body of water during a police chase. The pursuit began after state troopers received a complaint just before 1 a.m. that the two men were allegedly breaking into vehicles. The caller provided a description of the stolen vehicle and its registration plate information, enabling troopers to identify the vehicle.

Troopers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the suspects refused to comply, initiating a high-speed chase. Pennsylvania State Police made multiple attempts to stop the vehicle, but the suspects continued to flee. The chase took a dangerous turn as the suspects veered off the main roadway and drove through multiple farm fields and properties, evading the authorities.

Tragically, while driving through one of the fields, the vehicle went over a steep embankment and landed in a body of water. The car ultimately came to a rest underwater, leaving the occupants trapped inside. Emergency medical services, fire officials, and rescue units rushed to the scene to assist state police.

Upon arrival, responders discovered that the vehicle had landed upside down in a body of water in an irrigated cornfield. Sadly, the two men were already deceased. Pennsylvania State Trooper Megan Frazer confirmed that the car was submerged in water. The identities of the driver and the passenger have not yet been released.

State police have initiated an investigation into the incident, with troopers from one of its major case teams being assigned to the case. Further details regarding the circumstances of the chase, the identities of the deceased, and additional information will be disclosed at a later time, according to the agency.

Antrim Township, located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, near the Maryland border, has been shaken by this tragic event. The pursuit, stemming from a report of unlawful vehicle entry, has resulted in the loss of two lives and has left the community in shock. As the investigation unfolds, authorities will work tirelessly to determine the events leading up to this devastating outcome.

In unrelated news, Pennsylvania regulators have granted approval for a natural gas company to resume drilling following a ban on water pollution. This development comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the pursuit tragedy, highlighting the diverse range of issues currently faced by Pennsylvania.
