Raiders' Jack Jones goes full Grinch as he fakes out young Chiefs fan after pick-six

09:50 26.12.2023

Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones stole the holiday joy from a young Kansas City Chiefs fan during Monday's game when he faked him out after returning an interception for a touchdown. Jones intercepted a pass from Patrick Mahomes and took it back 33 yards for a score, helping the Raiders take a 17-7 lead. However, the cornerback was immediately labeled as a Grinch for keeping the ball instead of giving it to the young fan.

In response to the backlash, Jones took to social media to explain himself. On X, he addressed a post that criticized him, stating, "I didn't snatch that ball from the kid; it was from that black dude who tried to take it. Watch it again, lollipop." He clarified that he didn't intend to fool the child sitting near the railing, but rather another spectator who attempted to grab the ball. Despite his explanation, Jones faced criticism for his actions.

This interception marked Jones' second of the year since joining the Raiders from the New England Patriots. He has also recorded 20 tackles in the silver and black. Jones' play was crucial in the Raiders' victory, as they capitalized on a couple of Kansas City miscues, including a fumble returned for a touchdown by Bilal Nichols before the pick-six by Mahomes. The Raiders' defense sacked Mahomes four times, with Malcolm Koonce getting to him three times and Maxx Crosby sacking him once. Jones contributed to the defensive effort with five total tackles, while Nichols had three.

Despite being outgained by the Chiefs 308-205 and running 18 fewer plays, the Raiders managed to secure the win. The team's quarterback, Aiden O'Connell, struggled, completing just 9 of 21 passes for 62 yards. However, running back Zamir White shined, rushing for 145 yards. The victory improved the Raiders' season record to 7-8, keeping them in contention for a playoff spot. They currently trail the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals, all with 8-7 records. The Colts currently hold the No. 7 seed in the AFC playoffs.

In conclusion, Jones' interception return for a touchdown played a crucial role in the Raiders' 20-14 win over the Chiefs. While his decision to keep the ball sparked controversy and labeled him a Grinch, he clarified that he didn't intend to deceive the young fan but rather another spectator. The Raiders' victory was fueled by defensive efforts, including multiple sacks on Mahomes and a fumble returned for a touchdown. Despite being outgained and running fewer plays, Las Vegas managed to secure the win and stay in the playoff race.
