15:47 30.12.2023

In a tragic incident that has shocked the music world, founding member of the Dixie Chicks, Laura Lynch, was killed in a head-on collision in Texas. The driver of the truck involved in the crash could potentially face criminal charges, according to reports. Officials are currently investigating whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.

The collision occurred on December 22nd, just outside of El Paso. Lynch was driving her Ford F-150 when a Dodge Ram truck, traveling westbound, entered the eastbound lanes of Highway 62 in an attempt to overtake two cars. The truck collided with Lynch's vehicle, instantly killing the 65-year-old musician. Dramatic video footage captured the aftermath of the crash, showing the mangled and incinerated wreckage of both vehicles.

According to Sgt. Eliot Torres from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. While at the hospital, blood was drawn from the driver to test for drugs and alcohol. The results of these tests will be subpoenaed from the hospital as part of the ongoing investigation. It remains unclear whether the driver exhibited any signs of intoxication or underwent any field sobriety tests at the scene of the accident.

In addition to potential charges related to driving under the influence, the driver could also face reckless driving charges. The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that their complete investigation will be submitted 30 days after the crash, but did not provide further details.

Laura Lynch, who grew up in Dell City and split her time between there and Fort Worth, was on her way from El Paso to Dell City when the tragic accident occurred. Lynch was a founding member of the Dixie Chicks, now known as the Chicks, and played upright bass for the group. She also provided lead vocals on their first two albums, "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans" in 1990 and "Little Ol' Cowgirl" in 1992. Lynch's cousin, Mick Lynch, confirmed that she was driving from El Paso to Dell City at the time of the crash.

The Chicks, including current members Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer, expressed their shock and sadness at the passing of Lynch in a statement posted on Instagram. They paid tribute to Lynch, describing her as a bright light with infectious energy and humor. The band credited Lynch's talents and contributions for helping them achieve success in their early days. Sheryl Crow, a nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist who has collaborated with the Chicks, also expressed her condolences on their Instagram post.

Memorial services for Laura Lynch are scheduled for January 6th in El Paso and February [date not provided]. Lynch is survived by her husband, Mac Wells, and their daughter, Asia. The music community mourns the loss of this talented musician and founding member of the Chicks, as investigations into the crash continue and potential charges for the driver are considered.
