Immanuel Quickley shocked by Knicks-Raptors trade: 'Oh my goodness'

17:12 30.12.2023

In a shocking turn of events, the New York Knicks have reportedly made a blockbuster trade that has left fans and players alike stunned. The Knicks sent two fan favorites, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, Malachi Flynn, and a second-round pick.

The news of this trade sent shockwaves throughout the NBA world on Saturday. Barrett, who had shown flashes of brilliance in the blue and orange, had never quite taken that next step, leading to mixed emotions among fans. Quickley, on the other hand, had become an invaluable piece off the bench, with many Knicks fans believing he deserved more playing time. However, their hopes were dashed as Quickley was included in the trade.

What made the situation even more surprising was the way Quickley found out about the trade. It appears that he, like everyone else, learned of the news through social media. His reaction on X, formerly known as Twitter, was almost speechless. "Oh my goodness??¦," he posted, expressing his disbelief and shock.

Quickley wasn't the only one taken aback by the trade. His now-former teammate, Josh Hart, also expressed his surprise on social media. "What I wake up to," Hart wrote, reflecting the astonishment felt by many.

Barrett, who grew up in Canada, shared a post from Bleacher Report featuring him playing for his home country's team, the Raptors. The post highlighted Barrett's roots and his childhood support for the Raptors, adding another layer of complexity to the trade.

Reports suggest that the Knicks had been pursuing Anunoby since last season's trade deadline, indicating that this move was a long time in the making. Barrett, the third overall pick in the 2019 draft, had signed a lucrative four-year, $120 million extension just last year. Quickley, the 25th pick in the 2020 draft, was also highly regarded by the Knicks. Meanwhile, Anunoby was selected 23rd overall in 2017, and Achiuwa was picked five spots before Quickley.

The magnitude of this trade left many completely stunned, especially Quickley, who took to X to express his reaction shortly after the news broke. The deal, confirmed by The Post's Stefan Bondy, saw Quickley and Barrett heading to Toronto in exchange for Anunoby. Additionally, the Raptors included Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa in the trade, while the Knicks received a second-round pick.

Josh Hart, another Knicks guard, was also caught off guard by the move, joining Quickley in his state of surprise. Quickley's stunned reaction came just days after his joyful X post celebrating a victory at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day.

Quickley, a 24-year-old guard drafted by the Thunder in the 2020 NBA Draft, was traded to the Knicks two days later. Barrett, a Toronto native, had been with the Knicks since being selected as the third overall pick in the 2019 draft. Throughout his nearly five seasons in New York, Barrett has averaged 18.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from the field. Quickley, whose minutes had recently decreased, has averaged 12.9 points, 3.0 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game with a shooting percentage of 42.1 in his three-plus seasons. He was even having a career-best season, averaging 15 points before the unexpected trade.
