Manhunt launched for suspect in fatal shootings of eight people in Chicago

23:58 22.01.2024

In a shocking and tragic incident, the police in Joliet, Illinois, are currently on the hunt for a suspect in the fatal shooting of eight people. Seven of the victims were found dead in two homes on the same block on the city's east side, while another victim was discovered in a separate shooting. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Romeo Nance, is believed to be armed and dangerous and is thought to be driving a red Toyota Camry.

The authorities were alerted to the seven bodies by the Will County Sheriff's Office on Monday afternoon. Two of the victims were found in one home, while the remaining five were discovered in another. Chief William Evans of the Joliet Police Department stated that they believe a fatal shooting that occurred about four miles southeast of the crime scene is connected to the incident. The motive for the killings remains unclear, but Chief Evans revealed that Mr. Nance knew the victims, who appeared to be related to one another.

The suspect's last known address was one of the homes where the bodies were found, indicating a potential connection between Nance and the victims. However, the police did not provide any further details on the ages of the victims or how they may have known the suspect.

Deputy Chief Daniel Jungles of the Will County Sheriff's Office revealed that deputies had responded to a shooting on Sunday at an apartment block in unincorporated Juliet, which they believe is connected to the other seven victims. In that incident, a man was found with a gunshot wound to his head and later died in the hospital. Another man was shot in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Nance's red Toyota Camry was seen at both crime scenes, leading investigators to believe that the shootings were random in nature. Joliet, a city approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago, is the third most populous city in Illinois, with over 150,000 residents.

Chief Jungles urged residents to remain vigilant and report any information regarding Nance and his vehicle to law enforcement. The authorities are putting all their efforts into bringing the suspect to justice and are working closely with the FBI's Fugitive Task Force. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are withholding further details to avoid compromising the case.

This horrific crime scene has left law enforcement officials stunned. Chief Evans, who has been in the police force for 29 years, described it as the worst he has ever encountered. The community is in shock and mourning as they grapple with the devastating loss of eight lives. The victims' identities have not been released, but it is believed that they are all part of the same family.

As the search for Romeo Nance continues, authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to his arrest. The community is on high alert, and residents are being asked to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The hunt for the suspect is intensifying, and law enforcement agencies are determined to bring him to justice and provide closure for the grieving families.
