Police discover missing toddler's blanket weeks after disappearance

09:40 19.03.2024

A red and white plaid blanket belonging to missing 3-year-old Wisconsin boy Elijah Vue has been found almost a month after his disappearance, authorities confirmed on Monday. The blanket was discovered about 3.7 miles from where Elijah was last seen in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Elijah was reported missing on February 20 while in the care of his mother's boyfriend, Jesse Vang, who reported him missing after waking up from a nap. Vang has been charged with neglecting a child, while Elijah's mother, Katrina Baur, faces multiple charges including child neglect and obstructing an officer. Both maintain they had nothing to do with Elijah's disappearance.

Police have been conducting extensive searches in both urban and rural areas, including waterways, in an effort to find Elijah or any evidence related to his disappearance. The reward for information leading to Elijah's discovery has increased to $40,000, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information. The investigation has also focused on a beige 1997 Nissan Altima with Wisconsin plates beginning with "A," as captured in camera footage from the day before Elijah went missing.

Elijah's family has been overwhelmed by the support from strangers who have joined in the search efforts. Despite the draining search, they remain hopeful that Elijah will be found. The Two Rivers Police Department continues to work with multiple agencies, including the FBI, in the search for the missing toddler. Both Baur and Vang are currently in custody and will appear in court later this week.
