Boeing CEO and Top Executives Resign Amid Safety Concerns

09:16 25.03.2024

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun, along with two other top executives, announced their departure from the company following a series of safety issues that have plagued the aircraft manufacturer. Calhoun, who took over as CEO in 2020 after the 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019, stated in a memo that he would step down at the end of 2024. The decision comes after a door panel blew out of a 737 MAX plane during an Alaska Airlines flight in January, prompting a six-week audit from the Federal Aviation Administration that found numerous issues with Boeing's production methods.

In response to the Alaska Airlines incident, Calhoun emphasized the need for transparency and a renewed commitment to safety and quality within the company. The FBI has even contacted passengers on board the flight, indicating that they may be victims of a crime. The recent safety concerns have led to a significant drop in Boeing's share price, with some passengers rebooking flights to avoid traveling on Boeing planes altogether.

The departure of Calhoun, along with Chairman Larry Kellner and Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal, marks a significant shakeup within the company as it looks to rebuild its reputation and address the manufacturing issues that have come to light. Stephanie Pope will now lead the commercial airplanes division, as the company faces intense scrutiny from regulators and the public following a string of high-profile accidents.
