Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing charges of aggravated assault after being involved in a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway. The incident occurred on March 31, when Rice, driving a Lamborghini, and another driver, Theodore Knox, in a Corvette, were speeding in the far left lane of the North Central Expressway. The Lamborghini hit the center median wall, causing a collision involving four other vehicles. Four people sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Arrest warrants have been issued for Rice and Knox for aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury, and collision involving injury. Both individuals are currently not in custody. Rice, who took full responsibility for his part in the wreck in a social media post, was leasing the Lamborghini from The Classic Lifestyle, while the Corvette belonged to him, according to his attorney, state Sen. Royce West.
The Dallas Police Department confirmed that the passengers in the two speeding sports cars will not be charged. The NFL has been closely monitoring the situation, and the Chiefs have not yet commented on the matter. Rice, a standout player at Southern Methodist University, was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of last year's draft and had an impressive rookie season, becoming a reliable target for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and both Rice and Knox are awaiting further legal proceedings.
