20:42 21.04.2024

An 18-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed early Sunday morning at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware, leading to the closure of the campus as authorities investigate the incident. The victim, who was not a registered student of the university and hailed from Wilmington, Delaware, was found with a gunshot wound to her upper body near the Warren-Franklin Hall residence hall. Despite being rushed to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus for treatment, the young woman succumbed to her injuries.

The shooting, which occurred around 1:40 a.m., prompted a response from both Delaware State University Police and Dover Police. The campus remained closed throughout the day, with events canceled and police patrols increased. Counseling services were made available to support the campus community during this difficult time.

According to DSU officials, the victim and another woman were visiting a student on campus when the shooting took place. The gunman is still at large, and authorities are actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation. DSU parent Deirdre Foreman expressed shock at the incident, highlighting the prevalence of gun violence in today's society.

The Delaware State University Student Government Association issued a statement on Instagram, calling the shooting tragic and urging unity and support within the campus community. Classes were canceled on Monday as a precautionary measure, and security upgrades were being discussed in light of the shooting. Police have not released a description of any possible suspects and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
