A Florida softball coach from Tampa, Matthew Galhouse, was apprehended on Friday after being accused of committing several sex crimes against an underage player, according to authorities. The Pasco Sheriff's Office announced that Galhouse, 40 years old, faces charges of sexual battery on a victim aged between 12 and 18, engaging in sexual activity with a teenage victim, stalking, promoting sexual activity with a victim aged 16 years or younger, and traveling to meet a minor.

The investigation started on August 17 when Galhouse's victim, who was a member of the Lady Hawks softball team, reported the coach's illicit activities to the authorities. The illegal encounters reportedly began in the spring season of 2023. In an official Facebook post, the Pasco Sheriff's Office stated, "Beginning around late May 2023, Galhouse spent time with the victim and sent messages to the victim through social media which detailed his affection." Authorities further explained that Galhouse deceitfully used the guise of providing private softball lessons to meet with the victim.

Galhouse had been employed by the Lady Hawks softball team since 2018, but authorities clarified that he had never worked at any Pasco County school.
