Biden Launches Rural America Tour in Minnesota

06:06 01.11.2023

U.S. President Joe Biden is set to unveil over $5 billion in funding for agriculture, broadband, and clean energy in rural communities as part of his administration's efforts to focus on the domestic economy. The announcement will be made during Biden's visit to a family farm in Minnesota, marking the beginning of a two-week tour of rural areas by the president and other top administration officials.

The tour comes at a crucial time for Biden, who is hoping to win over rural voters that have increasingly leaned towards the Republican Party. A recent poll showed that many voters in these communities were unaware of key legislation such as the health care and clean energy law, which is a cornerstone of Biden's economic agenda. The president's visit to Minnesota also comes amidst a challenge from Representative Dean Phillips, who recently announced his long-shot presidential bid.

During the visit to the family farm, Biden will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. They will announce $1.7 billion in funding for farmers to adopt climate-smart agriculture practices, as well as $1.1 billion in loans and grants for infrastructure upgrades in rural communities. Additionally, $2 billion will be invested in economic development projects in collaboration with federal agencies, $274 million will be allocated to expand high-speed internet infrastructure, and $145 million will be used to increase access to renewable energy sources.

The White House has dubbed the tour the "Investing in Rural America Event Series," which will feature more than a dozen trips by Biden, cabinet secretaries, and other senior administration officials. The aim is to highlight the federal investments that are bringing new revenue to farms, promoting economic development, and creating more opportunities in rural towns and communities across the country.

Although Biden faces challenges in rural communities, he is determined to make an impact and show that his administration is committed to addressing the needs of rural Americans. The tour will continue with other administration officials visiting different states to discuss various issues, such as land conservation, water infrastructure investments, renewable energy, and healthcare access in rural areas.

The president's visit to Minnesota and the funding announcements are part of a broader strategy by the Biden administration to engage rural voters and demonstrate the positive impact of its economic policies. As Biden prepares for a potential re-election campaign, it is crucial for him to gain the support of rural Americans and ensure they feel included in his vision for the country's future.
