Texas Teen Found Murdered in Apartment

07:42 10.12.2023

Texas police have released chilling images of a person of interest and are investigating the mysterious death of 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina, a cheerleader from Edna, Texas. Medina was found dead inside her apartment on December 5th after failing to show up to a Christmas parade earlier that day. The unidentified man, who was seen wearing a black Volcom sweatshirt and had a distinctive tattoo behind his right ear, was photographed running in surveillance photos. He was also seen driving a silver Ford Taurus, with model years ranging from 2010 to 2018.

Medina's mother, Jacqueline, discovered her daughter's lifeless body in the bathtub and immediately called 911. Emergency responders arrived but were unable to revive the young cheerleader. Jacqueline Medina believes that her daughter was murdered, possibly in connection to a recent break-in that occurred at their Cottonwood Apartments unit a couple of weeks ago.

The circumstances surrounding Lizbeth Medina's death remain unclear, and investigators have not provided any information on the crime scene or signs of struggle. However, they are treating the case as a capital murder and are working diligently alongside the Texas Rangers to locate and bring the responsible individual to justice.

The Edna Police Department has released limited information to the public in order to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation. They have asked the community to remain vigilant as the suspect is still on the loose. The department has increased patrols in the area and is working with outside agencies to provide extra security.

A vigil was held for Lizbeth Medina at the Jackson County Courthouse, where attendees wore white in remembrance of the slain cheerleader. Lizbeth's aunt has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral and memorial, while also asking for the community's help in providing information to the police.

Lizbeth Medina was described by her family as a "special little girl, loving, kind, and big-hearted." She had dreams of becoming a nurse and was known for her joyful presence whenever she cheered for her high school football team. She had recently moved to Edna with her mother, who got a new job in renewable energy.

The small Texas city of Edna, with a population of less than 6,000, has come together to support Lizbeth's family during this difficult time. They have sent cookies, memorial T-shirts, and messages of support to show their solidarity. However, the candlelight vigil that was planned had to be canceled due to concerns about the suspect still being at large. Edna High School, where Lizbeth attended, could not be reached for comment. The community continues to hope for justice for Lizbeth and for answers in her tragic death.
