Actor Tyrese Gibson files $1M lawsuit against Home Depot for alleged racial discrimination

Fast & Furious actor Tyrese Gibson has filed a lawsuit against Home Depot, claiming that he and two of his workers were racially discriminated against by staffers at one of the company's stores. Gibson is demanding over $1 million in damages, which he says is equivalent to the amount of money he has spent at the store over the years. The incident allegedly took place on February 11 at a Home Depot store in West Hills, California. According to the lawsuit, Gibson and his two workers went to the store to purchase materials for a building project at Gibson's home. However, things took a turn when the cashier took 20 minutes to scan the items and Gibson was recognized by fans. Concerned about causing a disturbance, Gibson decided to wait in his car while his workers completed the transaction. However, when the workers tried to pay for the items, they were allegedly denied by the cashier. Gibson then returned to the store and provided identification to complete the purchase. The lawsuit claims that the actions of the cashier and the store manager were discriminatory based on race and origin, stating that there is no other plausible explanation for their mistreatment. The lawsuit further accuses Home Depot of refusing to take responsibility for the incident and instead "doubling down" and "lawyering up." Gibson and his co-plaintiffs are seeking damages for the company's negligence in hiring, screening, training, supervising, and retaining the staff involved. In response to the claims, Home Depot released a statement saying that they value Gibson as a customer and that they do not tolerate discrimination in any form. They also stated that they have reached out to Gibson and his attorneys multiple times in an attempt to resolve the issue. Gibson shared a video from the incident on social media, where he can be heard addressing the store employees. In a statement, he pledged to continue using his platform to empower the voiceless and fight against discriminatory practices and consumer racial profiling.
