US Nurse and Child Rescued: Faith-Filled Christian Song Served as Their Battle Cry

04:39 14.08.2023

American nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her young daughter have been released after being abducted at gunpoint from a Christian-run school near Haiti's capital city of Port-au-Prince. The Christian aid organization founded by Dorsainvil's husband, El Roi Haiti, confirmed that both mother and child were freed and are in good health. Dorsainvil expressed her gratitude for the support they received during their time in captivity and shared that the Christian song "See a Victory" by the Elevation Worship music collective became her rallying cry. The lyrics, "You take what the enemy meant for evil, and you turn it for good," resonated with her during her ordeal.

Haiti has been plagued by a rise in gang violence since the assassination of President Jovenel Mo??se in 2021. Criminal control of the country has worsened, leading to regular incidents of violence, including killings, rape, and kidnappings. According to a local nonprofit, there have been 539 kidnappings in Haiti since January, a significant increase compared to previous years. It remains unclear whether a ransom was paid for Dorsainvil and her daughter's release.

The American nurse's abduction highlights the dangerous situation in Haiti, with armed gunmen targeting innocent individuals for financial gain. The US State Department welcomed Dorsainvil's release but did not provide further details, emphasizing the priority of ensuring the safety and security of US citizens abroad.

The El Roi clinic, where Dorsainvil was taken from, is located outside Port-au-Prince and had previously been warned against by the US government due to the high risk of kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure in Haiti. The incident has further underscored the need for increased security measures and support in the country.

Dorsainvil's husband, Sandro Dorsainvil, is the director of El Roi Haiti and the couple has been actively involved in serving the community. Alix Dorsainvil's release brings relief to her loved ones and supporters who have been praying for her safe return. The focus now turns to the healing and recovery process for both mother and child as they navigate the aftermath of their traumatic experience.
