In a shocking and horrifying incident, a mother was brutally beaten to death with a hammer, while her two young children were left fighting for their lives in their Brooklyn rooming house on Wednesday. The New York Police Department (NYPD) officials described the attack as a "horrific and senseless act of violence." The 43-year-old woman and her battered children, a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, were discovered inside their cramped room on the second floor of the Sunset Park building around 2 p.m., following a 911 call about an assault in progress.

Upon arrival, the officers apprehended a 47-year-old man who was attempting to leave the building covered in blood. The suspect, who lives in another room of the three-bedroom apartment with his 9-year-old son, was immediately taken into custody. A third person rents the remaining room in the apartment.

NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell addressed the media at a news briefing, expressing his shock and condolences for the family. He emphasized, "The incident I'm about to describe to you is a horrific and senseless act of violence which took the life of a married mother of two.
