Diamondbacks rally to steal Game 1, Marte sparks series-clinching win

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a stunning comeback in their National League wild-card series against the Milwaukee Brewers, sweeping the best-of-three series with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night. Trailing 2-0 early in the game, the Diamondbacks showed resilience and determination as they rallied back to take the win.

The hero of the night was Ketel Marte, whose single in the sixth inning sparked a four-run rally for the Diamondbacks. Zac Gallen, the Arizona starting pitcher, battled through six innings, allowing two runs in the first inning but managing to keep the Brewers from adding on. Gallen's performance was crucial in setting the stage for the Diamondbacks' comeback.

The game started off in favor of the Brewers, who jumped on Gallen early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Christian Yelich singled, followed by Carlos Santana drawing a nine-pitch walk. Mark Canha then singled to load the bases, and Sal Frelick hit a sacrifice fly to put the Brewers on the board. Willy Adames added an RBI single to center field, giving the Brewers an early 2-0 lead.

However, the Diamondbacks fought back in the fifth inning when Alek Thomas hit a two-out solo homer off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta, bringing Arizona within one run. The real turning point came in the sixth inning, as the Diamondbacks unleashed a four-run rally.

Geraldo Perdomo led off the inning with a walk, and Corbin Carroll followed with a double down the right field line. Marte then came through with a two-run single to center field, putting the Diamondbacks ahead 3-2 and chasing Peralta from the game. The scoring continued as Tommy Pham scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Abner Uribe, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. blooped an RBI single to shallow left, extending the Diamondbacks' lead to 5-2.

Despite a late threat from the Brewers, who loaded the bases in the eighth inning, the Diamondbacks' pitching held strong. Andrew Saalfrank took over on the mound and induced a pair of fielder's-choice grounders to end the inning. In the ninth, Paul Sewald came in to close the game, stranding runners on second and third to secure his second save in as many days.

This victory completes an impressive sweep for the Diamondbacks, who overcame a 2-0 deficit in both games to advance to the National League Division Series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who finished 16 games ahead of them in the NL West. Game 1 of the series is set for Saturday in Southern California.

The Diamondbacks' Game 1 victory was led by a trio of home runs against Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes. Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and Gabriel Moreno all went deep, erasing an early three-run deficit. This win marked a significant milestone for the Diamondbacks, as they had previously been 0-14 in postseason games when trailing by at least three runs.

Going into Game 2, the Diamondbacks have the advantage with their ace Zac Gallen on the mound, while the Brewers will have to regroup and find a way to bounce back. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to this wild-card series, and the Diamondbacks will be looking to continue their momentum and secure their spot in the next round of the playoffs.
