Accused kidnapper targeted Charlotte Sena for her late grandfather's fortune: Ex-girlfriend

16:37 07.10.2023

In a shocking turn of events, Craig Ross Jr., a 46-year-old man from upstate New York, has been charged with kidnapping 9-year-old Charlotte Sena. The young girl was allegedly abducted from a state park, sparking a desperate search and causing panic in the community. However, new details have emerged suggesting that Ross may have specifically targeted Charlotte's family due to her grandfather's substantial lawsuit settlement.

The suspect's ex-girlfriend, Amanda Preece, speculated that Ross may have been motivated by financial struggles and the knowledge of Charlotte's grandfather's $2.2 million lawsuit settlement. Preece revealed to The Daily Mail that Ross "never wanted to work" and always sought to "mooch off of" others. She believes that he saw an opportunity to extort money from the family and secure his financial future.

Patrick Sena, Charlotte's late grandfather, had sued the town of Greenfield, New York, in 1998 following a sledding accident. The lawsuit ultimately resulted in a $2.2 million settlement. Preece claims that knowledge of this settlement was widely known among the residents of Saratoga, where both Charlotte and Ross lived.

Law enforcement officials have been tight-lipped about the case, declining to answer questions or provide further details. However, it has been revealed that Ross left a ransom note in Sena's family mailbox, demanding $50,000. This evidence, combined with his knowledge of the family's whereabouts, led police to focus their investigation on him.

Neighbors have come forward with disturbing information about Ross, shedding light on his suspicious behavior in the months leading up to the kidnapping. Preece mentioned a tarp that Ross put up over the windows of his RV, which faced his neighbor Michael's house. Michael, who requested anonymity, admitted that he did not think much of it at the time but now wonders if Ross had been planning something nefarious.

Ross's past also raises concerns. He has a history of violence, evident in a restraining order filed against him by Preece in 2017. Court documents describe an incident where Ross allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her across the room. Additionally, police sources have revealed that Ross was under investigation for sexual abuse involving a 12-year-old girl, although no charges were filed.

The dramatic raid that led to Charlotte's rescue was a moment of relief for her family and the community. Law enforcement officers, armed with long guns and tactical gear, stormed Ross's trailer, using flashbangs to disorient him. Ross was arrested and taken into custody, although he reportedly resisted arrest. Charlotte was found alive in a cabinet, giving hope to those following the case.

Charlotte's condition has not been disclosed in detail, but Governor Kathy Hochul stated that there does not appear to be any outward harm, and state police have confirmed that she is in good health. The young girl is currently recovering and being evaluated in a hospital. Her aunt, Jene Sena, expressed immense joy at her safe return, stating, "We are just elated she came home."

Ross has been charged with first-degree kidnapping and is currently being held without bond at Saratoga County jail. Authorities anticipate filing additional charges in the future. Meanwhile, investigators are looking into any possible connections between Ross and other unsolved cases in the area, including the abduction and slayings of Jennifer Hammond and Christina White.

The arrest of Craig Ross Jr. has brought a sense of relief to the community, but it has also raised concerns about the potential dangers that may still exist. As the investigation unfolds, authorities will continue to pursue justice for Charlotte Sena and seek answers for other unresolved cases that may be linked to Ross.
