California Woman Disappears on Yoga Retreat in Guatemala, Witnesses Silent

00:45 09.11.2023

A 29-year-old California woman, Nancy Ng, has been missing for over two weeks in Guatemala, where she was attending a yoga retreat for the second year in a row. Ng, who works with special needs students in the Alhambra School District, departed for the retreat on October 14th. The retreat's organizer called Ng's family to inform them that she had not been seen since a kayaking trip she took with others from the retreat. However, witnesses have reportedly not been cooperating with search teams, leading some to believe this case could be criminal.

Ng's family has been desperately searching for her, hiring private search and rescue teams, including helicopter and boat crews, divers, and drones. They have also reached out to the FBI and the State Department for assistance. However, their efforts have been hindered by a lack of information from witnesses who could provide crucial details about Ng's disappearance. The family has expressed frustration and confusion as to why witnesses have not come forward to help in the search.

The difficult terrain around Lake Atitlan, where Ng was last seen, has made the search efforts even more challenging. The lake is located in a volcanic crater and is a popular tourist destination. The hired search team, Black Wolf Helicopters, has searched 99% of the lake but has been unable to find any clues about Ng's whereabouts. They have requested that criminal authorities step in to investigate the case due to the uncooperative witnesses.

Ng's family has been holding onto hope that she may still be alive and waiting to be found. They have even expressed the possibility of a ransom scenario and have kept their phones close at night, hoping for a call that could offer some proof of Ng's survival. The family has also set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the search and rescue efforts, which has received significant support.

The FBI is now assisting the Guatemalan government in the investigation, as the search for Ng continues. The family is determined to find closure and, if necessary, justice for their missing loved one. They hope that with the involvement of authorities and continued search efforts, Ng will be located soon.
