Co-founder of Students for Trump was charged with assault after allegedly hitting a woman with a gun, court records show

09:12 29.11.2023

Last week, Ryan Fournier, the co-founder of the political organization Students for Trump, found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested and charged with assault in North Carolina. According to court records from Johnston County, Fournier was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon on November 21. The incident involved Fournier allegedly hitting a woman, later identified as his girlfriend, with a gun.

The arrest came as a shock to many, as Fournier has been a prominent figure in the conservative political sphere. Students for Trump, the organization he co-founded in 2015 while still a freshman at Campbell University, gained significant attention during the 2016 election. The group was formed to rally support for then-candidate Donald Trump and has since continued its mission to promote conservative values among college students.

According to the charging documents, Fournier is accused of grabbing the woman by her arm and striking her in the forehead with a firearm. The documents, however, do not disclose the identity of the woman, as it has been redacted. Fournier waived his right to assigned counsel in the case, suggesting that he will either represent himself or retain private legal representation.

Following his arrest, Fournier was released on a $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear at a hearing on December 18 at the Johnston County Courthouse.

In addition to his role in Students for Trump, Fournier also leads another organization called Radical Alert. Its stated purpose is to monitor and expose what it considers to be radicals who have "taken over American college campuses." The website of Radical Alert indicates that the organization is committed to combating what it sees as a left-wing influence on higher education.

CNN has attempted to reach out to Fournier for comment but has not yet received a response. The news of his arrest has undoubtedly raised questions about his credibility as a prominent political figure and the potential implications for Students for Trump.

As the case unfolds, many will be closely watching to see how this incident impacts Fournier's reputation and the future of the organizations he is associated with. Supporters and critics alike will be eager to see how he handles the charges and whether there will be any consequences for his role in the conservative movement.
