Muslim-American Swing State Voters Pledge to Reject Biden Due to Gaza Conflict

20:34 02.12.2023

Muslim-American leaders from nine swing states gathered in Dearborn, Michigan, to express their anger and frustration towards President Joe Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas war. At a conference organized by the #AbandonBiden National Coalition, leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania pledged to withdraw their support for Biden, stating that his refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza has lost him the 2024 election.

The conference was held in Dearborn, which has the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States. Behind a lectern that read "Abandon Biden, ceasefire now," the Muslim community leaders condemned Biden's actions and expressed their disappointment in his lack of support for the Palestinian people. Jaylani Hussein, a Minneapolis-based organizer of the conference, stated that Biden's unwillingness to call for a ceasefire has irreparably damaged his relationship with the American Muslim community.

Hussein highlighted the devastating impact of the war, stating that over 13,300 Palestinians, primarily women and minors, have been killed, while 1,200 Israelis have also lost their lives. He emphasized that the Muslim community's support for Biden has vanished as they witness the tragedy unfolding in Gaza. Hussein quoted a religious leader who asked him how to destroy his 2020 ballot as a sign of the deep anger within the community.

The Muslim community leaders made it clear that their condemnation of Biden does not equate to support for former President Donald Trump. They emphasized that they have multiple options and will exercise their votes to save the nation from itself. They called for a change in leadership and vowed to use their electoral power to ensure Biden's loss in the 2024 election.

The Muslim-American community has traditionally supported Democrats in national elections, but recent polling indicates a significant decline in their support for Biden. An October poll sponsored by the Arab American Institute found that only 17% of Arab Americans surveyed planned to vote for Biden in 2024, compared to 59% who supported him in 2020. This decline in support could have a significant impact on closely divided states like Michigan, Arizona, and Georgia, where Muslim votes played a crucial role in Biden's victory.

Organizers hinted that they may endorse a third-party candidate but stressed that their campaign is not in support of Trump. They aim to punish Biden and make him a one-term president in order to bring America back to the right side of history. The Muslim community leaders' actions highlight the power and influence they hold in swing states, and their withdrawal of support for Biden could sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
