Vivek Ramaswamy tells CNN's Van Jones "Just shut the f-k up' at Turning Point USA Americafest

23:53 18.12.2023

In a heated exchange between Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and CNN commentator Van Jones, tensions reached a boiling point as insults were hurled back and forth. The exchange took place following the fourth GOP debate, where Ramaswamy made controversial comments invoking Jan. 6 and accusations of the "Great Replacement Theory," which alleges that Democrats support a plan to replace white Americans with people of color.

Jones, clearly angered by Ramaswamy's remarks, did not hold back in his criticism. During a CNN panel, he condemned Ramaswamy's statements, stating that they were rooted in a "very sick and twisted view." Jones argued that Ramaswamy's rhetoric, suggesting that Democrats are using people of color to manipulate and drive their agenda, could incite violence and put Jewish people and people of color at risk. He went on to describe Ramaswamy as a dangerous and despicable person, warning that he would "outlive Trump by about 50 years."

Ramaswamy, however, was unapologetic in his response. Speaking at a Turning Point USA conference, he addressed Jones' comments, mocking his characterization of him as an "American demagogue." Ramaswamy expressed his frustration, telling Jones to "just shut the f- up," which was met with applause from the crowd. The Republican candidate dismissed Jones' criticisms as baseless and criticized the mainstream media for their treatment of his views.

This clash between Ramaswamy and Jones is not the first altercation the GOP hopeful has had with CNN. Just last week, he engaged in a heated exchange with CNN anchor Abby Phillip during an Iowa town hall. Ramaswamy accused the government of lying and claimed that federal agents were present during the events of Jan. 6. As Phillip pressed him on his explosive remarks, Ramaswamy dismissed her interruptions as a sign that the "establishment doesn't approve" of his message.

Despite the controversies surrounding Ramaswamy, he remains determined to defy expectations at the Iowa Caucus next month as he vies for the GOP nomination. According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Ramaswamy is currently trailing behind former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and former President Trump. However, Trump continues to dominate the field with an overwhelming 52% support among primary voters.

As the race for the GOP nomination intensifies, Ramaswamy's confrontations with the media and his controversial statements are sure to continue drawing attention. The clash between him and Jones highlights the deep political divides within the Republican party and the intense emotions surrounding issues of race and immigration. Only time will tell if Ramaswamy's unapologetic approach will resonate with voters or further alienate him from the mainstream.
