FBI investigating after cars crash and plow into crowd outside New Year's concert in Rochester, New York, killing 2 and injuring 5

In a tragic turn of events, a couple was killed and several others were injured during the early hours of the New Year when a car filled with explosives crashed into a crowd of people leaving a rock concert at the Kodak Center in Rochester, New York. The incident occurred at 12:50 a.m., just as approximately 1,000 concert-goers were exiting the venue after a New Year's Eve moe. show.

Eyewitnesses reported that Rochester officers were assisting pedestrians in crossing the street when a Ford Expedition suddenly accelerated towards the crowd. However, instead of plowing into the pedestrians, the car collided with an Uber that was pulling out of a nearby parking lot. The impact was so powerful that the two vehicles careened through the crosswalk, striking two other cars in the process. The resulting collision caused a massive explosion, engulfing the cars in flames that took nearly an hour for the fire department to extinguish.

Tragically, the couple riding inside the Uber lost their lives, while their driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Additionally, three pedestrians were struck by the flying cars, with one of them fighting for their life. The driver of the Ford Expedition, later identified as Michael Avery, was also critically injured and transported to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Law enforcement sources revealed that after the fire was put out, investigators discovered numerous gasoline canisters scattered across the pavement and inside the Ford Expedition. This alarming discovery led authorities to initiate an investigation into the incident as a possible case of domestic terrorism. Avery, who hailed from Syracuse, had rented a hotel room in Rochester, where police conducted a search and recovered a suicide note and journal. Investigators are currently reviewing the journal in hopes of finding any clues that could shed light on the motive behind the attack.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Avery had rented the extra-large SUV prior to the concert, indicating premeditation. The FBI has been called in to assist with the investigation, and authorities are planning to search a storage unit belonging to Avery in north Syracuse.

The devastating incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Mayor Malik Evans expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the need for unity and support during this difficult time. Members of moe., the rock band that had performed at the Kodak Center before the tragedy, also expressed their profound sadness and shock, highlighting the stark juxtaposition of a night meant for celebration turning into a heart-wrenching tragedy.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain patient and vigilant. The FBI, Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department, and the Kodak Center are working together to gather more information and determine the exact circumstances that led to this devastating crash.
