Man found dead at Salt Lake City airport after climbing inside jet engine

16:17 02.01.2024

A tragic incident unfolded at Salt Lake City International Airport on Monday night when a 30-year-old man was found dead inside an airplane engine. The man had reportedly breached an emergency exit door, ran onto the airfield, and climbed into the engine of a Delta Air Lines aircraft. The disturbing sequence of events began when a store manager inside the airport contacted the control center to report a disturbance involving the man. Police responded to the scene and witnessed the man exiting the airport through an emergency door that provided access to the tarmac.

According to KSLTV, the man ran to the south end of the airport's west runway where workers were de-icing planes. At the time, a Delta Air Lines flight bound for San Francisco was on the tarmac and preparing to depart. In response to the situation, airport officials made the decision to force the flight to return to its gate and ultimately cancel it. All passengers were rebooked onto other flights, ensuring their safety and security.

The man's actions caused significant disruption and concern, leading to a joint investigation by the police, airport officials, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The goal of the investigation is to determine how the man ended up inside the engine and what caused his death.

When police and airport employees eventually located the man, he was unresponsive inside the engine. Despite their efforts to revive him, the man remained unconscious and was declared dead at the scene. The exact cause of death and the injuries sustained by the man are currently unknown. The authorities have chosen to withhold his name until his family is notified.

The incident did not impact overall operations at the airport, but it did result in the cancellation of the Delta flight. The aircraft's engines were not running at the time the man climbed inside, according to investigators. Delta Air Lines expressed their full cooperation with the ongoing investigations and emphasized their commitment to the safety and security of their customers and employees.

This shocking event has raised questions about airport security and the potential vulnerabilities that exist within airport facilities. As the investigation continues, authorities will work diligently to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future and that the safety of passengers and airport personnel remains a top priority.
