Florida Mother Demands Answers After Daughter Becomes Pregnant in Miami Jail

A shocking incident has unfolded in a Miami jail, where a Florida mother is demanding answers after her daughter, Daisy Link, became pregnant while incarcerated. Link, who is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a murder charge, revealed the news to her mother, Josie Ramos, on Christmas Day. According to NBC Miami, Link informed Ramos that another inmate, who is also facing a murder charge, had passed her a semen-filled glove through an air conditioning vent on multiple occasions.

Link claimed to have never met the man and had only communicated with him through the vent. The inmate in question was housed on an upper floor above Link, as reported by Local 10. However, Ramos expressed disbelief in her daughter's explanation, stating, "I know this did not happen. I heard what they said happened, which is the A/C vent thing, which is ludicrous and ridiculous."

Link's attorney revealed that jail officials informed him that Link became pregnant through an "unconventional method," without specifying further details. The baby's father has since been removed from the facility. The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) released a statement to NBC, stating, "The care, safety, and rehabilitation of all those in our custody remains our top priority. While there is no evidence of sexual battery against our inmate at this time, the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy are currently under active investigation."

Link is currently three months pregnant, and Ramos expressed concerns for her daughter's welfare while being held in the facility's mental health unit. She pleaded, "I want to see if someone in the courthouse can see this and let her out so she can get proper prenatal medical care because you don't come out of a jail impregnated by anyone while you're still awaiting a trial."

According to Local 10, Link is facing charges for fatally shooting a man outside her Homestead, Fla. home in June 2022 during a domestic incident. In a chilling statement to the victim, Link reportedly said, "I think I hit a major artery. You'll be fine."

Link's sister, Crystal Barreto, expressed her shock and concern upon learning about her sister's pregnancy. She emphasized her worries about Daisy's safety and demanded answers from corrections officials. Link has been in the county jail since June 2022 on a second-degree murder charge, along with an additional charge of battery by a detainee on a visitor or other detainee. Her case has yet to go to trial.

Marlene Montaner, Link's criminal defense attorney, shared that the second-degree murder charge stemmed from a domestic violence incident in which Link fired a single gunshot while defending herself against an abusive partner. Montaner provided photos to NBC News, showing Link with blood on her shoulders and head as a result of the abuse she endured days before the incident in June 2022.

Both Montaner and Barreto have been pushing for Link's release on house arrest, especially now that she is pregnant. However, neither of them knows how Link became pregnant. Barreto explained that her sister has not disclosed what happened, fearing that her phone calls are being recorded.

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department stated that the matter is under "active investigation" and that an inmate reported her belief that she is pregnant on December 23. The pregnancy was confirmed through a thorough medical examination conducted by Correctional Health Services partners.

Barreto revealed that Link had previously attempted to inform jail officials about her pregnancy but was met with mockery and disbelief. Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation declined to comment further on the investigation but stated that they have seen no evidence of sexual assault leading to the pregnancy. Pregnant inmates in their custody receive "timely and appropriate prenatal care," the department assured.

Despite these assurances, Link's family remains deeply concerned. Barreto asserted, "Nobody should come out pregnant in jail. This is really ridiculous. We're just very worried about Daisy and her well-being, her safety, and the safety of her unborn child." The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Link's pregnancy continues, and her family eagerly awaits answers from the authorities.
