At least two people, including a child, have tragically lost their lives after a concrete truck collided head-on with a school bus full of pre-K children returning from a field trip in Bastrop County, Texas. The bus, carrying 44 students and 11 adults from Tom Green Elementary School, was hit by the concrete truck on State Highway 21. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell, one child on the bus and an adult passenger in a vehicle behind the bus were killed in the crash.

In an updated post by Austin-Travis County EMS, a total of 53 patients were evaluated at the scene, with four patients in critical condition and six in potentially serious condition. The rest sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospitals or a unification center. The school district confirmed that the students were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo when the accident occurred.

School superintendent Eric Wright expressed his heartbreak over the loss of a young boy in a letter to the school community, commending the teachers and staff for their response during the tragic event. He also praised the bus driver for prioritizing the children's well-being despite her own injuries. The school's reunification process was completed by the evening.

The crash involved multiple vehicles, including a cement truck, but it is still unclear which vehicles the deceased individuals were in. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn expressed his condolences and asked the public to avoid the area of the accident. The incident is still under investigation, and authorities are working to provide further details.
