Third victim recovered in Maryland bridge collapse

20:31 05.04.2024

President Joe Biden visited the site of the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, where six construction workers lost their lives after a cargo ship collided with the bridge. The body of Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, one of the workers who had been missing since the collapse, was recovered just hours before Biden's arrival. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his gratitude to the first responders and sent condolences to the families of the victims.

Authorities announced that a third victim, identified as Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, had been recovered from the site. The worker's brother, Carlos Alexis Suazo Sandoval, expressed relief that his brother's body had been found, while his nephew, Hector Guardado, found the news comforting yet difficult. Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr. vowed to continue the search for the remaining missing workers to bring closure to their families.

President Biden promised to "move heaven and earth" to rebuild the bridge and called on Congress to fund the project. The Biden administration has already allocated $60 million in emergency funds for the salvage and recovery effort. The collapse of the Key Bridge remains one of the most challenging tragedies faced by the law enforcement agencies involved in the recovery efforts. The community continues to mourn the loss of the hard-working and selfless construction workers who tragically lost their lives in the bridge collapse.
