Canadian musician Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument in 2020. The highly publicized case, which has sparked conversations about violence against Black women, concluded with Lanez being convicted of three felony counts.

Prosecutors had sought a 13-year sentence, highlighting Lanez's lack of remorse and refusal to take responsibility for his actions. However, Lanez's defense team argued for probation, pointing to mitigating factors such as his childhood abuse, philanthropic work, and his relationship with alcohol.

During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez fired multiple shots at her after an argument and accused him of attempting to destroy her character and soul.
