Georgia Indictment Unveils Trump's Deep Conspiracy, Trump Campaign Responds with Accusations

In a recent development, the Trump campaign has condemned District Attorney Fani Willis, citing her father John's history as a former Black Panther leader in California. This comes as former President Donald Trump faces a new indictment by Fulton County, Georgia, Democratic District Attorney Fani Willis, on more than a dozen charges, including a RICO charge typically reserved for mobsters.

Amidst these developments, a former federal prosecutor, speaking to Fox News, has stated that while Trump's latest indictment may not be as strong as the Mar-a-Lago documents case, it still remains an "enduring threat." The former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Andy McCarthy, highlighted the remarkable nature of Willis' indictment but suggested that it may not be as strong as the federal indictments led by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

McCarthy explained that if Trump were to be convicted in Atlanta, he would face a more challenging path to absolution due to Georgia's strict pardon system. Unlike many other states and at the federal level, Georgia's governor does not possess the authority to issue a pardon. Instead, this power rests with a separate state board, with pardons only permitted five years after completion of the sentence and payment of restitution.

Conservatives, such as Mike Davis from the Article III Project, have called for Georgia's Republican-majority legislature to amend the state Constitution, allowing Governor Brian Kemp the power to pardon. However, Trump has been critical of Kemp, particularly in relation to the 2020 election, which is currently under scrutiny by Willis.

McCarthy noted that Willis' case poses the most enduring threat to Trump since it is a state prosecution. This means that Trump's strategy to delay the federal cases in the hopes of winning the election or obtaining a pardon would not apply in this situation. McCarthy further explained that while the RICO charge may grab attention, the smaller charges lower down the indictment document are actually stronger. If Trump were to be convicted on one of these smaller charges, a pardon would not be able to save him.

In comparison, McCarthy argued that Special Counsel Jack Smith's case may face challenges as the criminal counts do not align as well with the allegations against Trump as the state-level charges might. Consequently, Smith may encounter difficulties in court, whereas Willis' RICO charge might be seen as excessive.

With these developments, the legal battle between former President Donald Trump and District Attorney Fani Willis continues, with the indictment serving as an enduring threat to Trump's legal standing. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have significant implications for both Trump and the future of Georgia's pardon system.
