Teen Killer's Twisted Tribute: Disturbing Comments on Boyfriend's Obit

08:45 18.08.2023

In a shocking turn of events, Mackenzie Shirilla, a 19-year-old Ohio teenager, has been found guilty of four counts of murder after deliberately crashing her car into a building at 100 miles per hour while under the influence of marijuana. The crash, which occurred in July 2022, resulted in the deaths of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and his friend Davion Flanagan, 19. Details have emerged that Shirilla had posted a disturbing TikTok video before her arrest, in which she boasted about her drug tolerance and feelings of immortality. The video, which resurfaced after her conviction, shows Shirilla batting her enormous fake eyelashes while the audio claims, "I'm just one of those girls that can do a lot of drugs and not die." It remains unclear whether the video was filmed before or after the fatal crash.

The prosecution presented evidence that the trio had been smoking marijuana prior to the incident. Shirilla, who was only 17 at the time, plowed her car into a brick wall with no attempt to hit the brakes, resulting in the deaths of Russo and Flanagan. Remarkably, Shirilla survived the crash and was found unconscious with her Prada slippers still on the accelerator. Detectives testified that hallucinogenic mushrooms and a scale were also discovered near Shirilla's body at the scene.

Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim Troup argued in court that Shirilla had a motive to murder Russo after their relationship had soured. Flanagan, who was simply looking for a ride home, was tragically caught up in the incident and described as innocent cargo by Troup. Security camera footage captured Shirilla's deliberate actions leading up to the crash, with Judge Nancy Margaret Russo, who is not related to Dominic, stating that she acted with "purpose and intent" by accelerating her Toyota Camry to triple-digit speeds. The judge declared, "She had a mission, and she executed it with precision. The decision was death."

During the trial, Shirilla's mother, Nathalie Shirilla, testified that her daughter had been diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a disorder that can cause her to faint if her sodium and hydration levels are too low. She suggested that this condition may have contributed to the crash. POTS is characterized by lightheadedness or fainting, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

In a bizarre twist, it was revealed that Shirilla had left a comment on Russo's online obituary on the day of his funeral. The comment, posted under her name, expressed love and longing for him, stating, "I miss you nug. I still feel like you're just going to walk in the door any second." Other comments made in Shirilla's name on the obituary included photographs of the couple together, with one captioned "Strongsville Prom 2022." These posts painted a starkly different picture of their relationship compared to the prosecution's claims of a toxic and threatening dynamic.

Despite these conflicting messages, Judge Russo firmly stated that Shirilla's actions were not reckless driving but premeditated murder. The conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison with no possibility of parole for 15 years. Shirilla is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday. It remains to be seen if her attorney, James McDonnell, will file an appeal on behalf of his client.
