A Louisiana fugitive was captured in Mexico after 32 years on the run - and laughs as he's handcuffed

Louisiana fugitive Greg Lawson, who had been on the run for 32 years, was finally apprehended in Huatulco, Mexico on Tuesday. The 63-year-old fugitive had been convicted of attempted second-degree murder in 1991 but managed to evade capture before the jury could hand down the verdict. Lawson's capture was made possible by a tip received by FBI New Orleans, leading to a coordinated effort between US and Mexican authorities.

Lawson's capture was captured on video, which was released by the FBI. In the footage, Lawson can be seen dressed in a khaki shirt and flowy green pants, laughing as he is handcuffed by an officer. The video serves as a chilling reminder of the decades-long search for a man convicted of attempted murder.

The attempted murder took place in the rural community of Ringgold, Louisiana, where Lawson had tried to run his childhood friend, Seth Garlington, off the road. This led to a confrontation in a gas station parking lot, where guns were drawn and shots were fired. Garlington survived the incident, but Lawson managed to flee the scene before facing justice.

Since his disappearance, the FBI had followed numerous leads and alleged sightings across the United States. In 2007, the agency even offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Lawson's whereabouts. However, it wasn't until this week that a solid tip and cooperation with Mexican immigration authorities finally led to his capture.

Lawson was deported back to the United States on immigration violations and was escorted to Houston. From there, he was handed over to Louisiana police, who had been searching for him for over three decades. The successful capture and deportation of Lawson were hailed as a joint effort between US and Mexican authorities, with special thanks given to the public and partners who never gave up hope that justice could be served for Garlington.

This case echoes another recent arrest in Mexico, where a man on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list was apprehended earlier this year. It serves as a reminder that even after decades, fugitives can be brought to justice thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies. The capture of Greg Lawson brings closure to a long-standing case and offers a glimmer of hope for victims and their families awaiting justice.
