Oklahoma Judge's Disturbing Shooting Spree and Car Crash Ends in Arrest

15:40 22.09.2023

In a shocking turn of events, an Oklahoma judge has been arrested in Austin, Texas, after allegedly opening fire on parked vehicles and intentionally crashing into a woman's car. Brian Lovell, an associate district judge in Garfield County, was taken into custody on September 11th on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. A felony count of engaging in deadly conduct with a firearm has been forwarded to a grand jury for consideration.

The details surrounding the incident are deeply troubling. According to an Austin police affidavit, officers received a call just after 4 p.m. reporting a man firing his weapon "approximately five times while driving down the street." At least one parked vehicle was struck by the gunfire. Approximately 90 minutes later, authorities responded to a crash less than 2 miles away from the shooting scene. A woman reported that a man had intentionally rammed into the rear of her vehicle twice.

The suspect, identified as Brian Lovell, matched the description of the shooter provided in the affidavit. When questioned by the police, Lovell claimed that the woman had cut him off in traffic, which led to the collisions. However, he did not admit that the crashes were intentional. The affidavit also reveals that Lovell had two handguns in his vehicle, although he could not recall any part of the shooting incident. His inability to explain his actions raises concerns about his mental state.

To add to the intrigue, Lovell's wife answered a call to a number listed as his but refused to comment on the situation. Lovell himself did not respond to a phone message left at another listed number. When a KFOR-TV reporter visited his home in Waukomis, Lovell declined to comment.

The arrest of Lovell has sent shockwaves through the legal community. Paul Woodward, the presiding administrative judge for the Garfield County district, expressed disbelief at the allegations against Lovell. Woodward stated that Lovell has agreed not to preside over any cases until his own case is resolved. "He's been a good friend and colleague for years. It's hard for me to believe any of this," Woodward said.

In light of these disturbing events, Lovell has been released on a $10,000 bond but has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. The investigation into the shooting incident and the intentional crashes is ongoing, and the felony count of engaging in deadly conduct with a firearm will be reviewed by a grand jury. Lovell's future as a judge hangs in the balance as the legal process unfolds, and the implications of these deeply troubling actions are sure to reverberate throughout the community.
