In a recent interview on "Face the Nation," Illinois Governor JB Pritzker expressed his concerns about the federal government's lack of intervention and coordination in dealing with the influx of asylum seekers in his state. Pritzker emphasized the need for logistical support and assistance in determining where these individuals should be placed. He stressed that Chicago, New York, and DC cannot be the sole destinations for these asylum seekers and that other parts of the country should also be considered. Pritzker called for the establishment of a single office with an identified leader who works directly with the President to coordinate efforts and ensure effective management of the situation. He also highlighted the importance of data and communication to facilitate the process and enable the identification of relatives in the United States who could provide support to the arriving asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, spoke about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. He expressed condolences for the lives lost and described the situation as a war, emphasizing the need to fight and win. Herzog suspected Iranian involvement in supporting Hamas and called for the destruction of the Hamas war machine. While he did not disclose specific plans, he stated that Israel would strike back against any attack on its territory. Herzog dismissed the notion that the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank was a factor in the surprise attack by Hamas. He emphasized that Israel is united in its defense against terror organizations and that the internal political debates did not weaken the country's readiness to respond.

In terms of American involvement, Herzog mentioned a phone call between President Biden and the Israeli Prime Minister, in which the administration expressed strong support for Israel's right to self-defense. Israel is currently in discussions with the US administration regarding the situation and its needs. Regarding the issue of Palestinian civilians trapped in Gaza, Herzog highlighted the use of civilians as human shields by Hamas, making it difficult to separate them from the conflict.

Overall, both Governor Pritzker and Ambassador Herzog underscored the need for coordinated efforts, support, and resources from the federal government to address the respective crises in Illinois and Israel. They called for effective management, strategic planning, and a united front in dealing with these challenges.
